<![CDATA[Why are men so hard to buy for – ultimate gift guide]]> Tue, 07 Jun 2011 15:31:11 +0000 Men have long been notoriously hard to buy for... now we know why.

Men feel they don’t really need a gift because when they want something, they buy it for themselves. It’s built into their nature; it’s the modern day manifestation of their primal hunter instinct. Need. Find. Get. Why must it be any more complicated than that?, they think.

When probed further about what they want, 20% of men said they could do with a new wallet and 10% suggested perhaps a new t-shirt.

When it comes to giving hints for what gifts they’d like, it seems men’s imagination escapes them when they’re put on the spot. So we went a step further and asked other questions to get inside a man’s head and figure out what he’d like to receive as a gift.

Why men are so hard to buy for.

Maybe men aren't so hard to buy for after all?...

<![CDATA[The iPhone 4 Compared to the iPod Touch 4G]]> Tue, 12 Apr 2011 17:42:32 +0000 It could be a bit tricky to compare the iPhone 4 to the iPod Touch 4. Many who are not familiar with their features seem to agree that both gadgets are almost identical but actuality they are not. Some go even further by saying that the iPod is like the iPhone devoid of its phone parts. Not just quite, as there are many differences if you decide to study and analyze both gadgets closely.

The iPhone is almost magical to say the least for most people. Its features are imitated by the iPod so that it would appear as a cool and exciting gadget. This would then get more people interested in buying them.

Comparisons for the two gadgets can go this way:

The iPhone is obviously a phone while the iPod is an MP3 player.

There is obvious difference in design and size as the iPhone is bigger than the iPod.

Touch screen display: iPhone = IPS technology iPod Touch = non-IPS technology
Size of Battery: iPhone = 5.25W/Hour iPod Touch= 3.44W/Hour
Storage: iPhone = 16/32GB iPod Touch= 8/32/64GB
Back Camera: iPhone = 5-megapixel iPod Touch=0.7-megapixel
Calling Alert: iPhone = Ringtone and Vibration iPod Touch= No vibration for face time

Both of these gadgets are like two effective mini-computers that can do many things such as playing games, music and video capabilities, video calls, video recording, photo taking and many other applications.

The features are a bit overwhelming but you can now spot the difference between the two gadgets. It looks like the iPhone has more technology in it compared to the iPod. The additional technology of the iPhone includes GPS, cellular signal and a network contract which is an important requirement to buy an iPhone. These are lacking in the iPod. In addition, the iPhone is more expensive than the iPod due to its outstanding features.

Nonetheless, an iPod is a good gadget for kids and for those who are not so techno savvy. If you want to save on costs and you don’t need a full scale mobile computer and phone with a network contract, then the iPod is an ideal choice for you.

However, if you can afford to spend for the ultimate, modern and most convenient gadget, then go ahead and buy the iPhone. It could be worth it if it fits the right kind of life style you have either at work or while playing.

In line with buying any of these gadgets, it would be wise to get updates on the models especially during summer. This would help you keep track of new models and compare prices and features. This would also keep you aware of buying models that would become obsolete in just a few months of purchasing. It would then be an advantage to wait for a while before deciding to buy any new models of the iPhone or iPod.

Overall, the iPod and iPhone are both useful in their own ways. Their usefulness depends on the user and how these gadgets can fit the everyday activities.

<![CDATA[5 fashion tips for men]]> Tue, 12 Apr 2011 17:35:06 +0000 We all know men to be the ultimate fashion improvisers, which is just a kind way to say how much some men have the ability to look absolutely ridiculous when left to fend for themselves in the world of clothing. Developing a sense of style isn’t something that comes naturally to everyone, naturally, and often men don’t see a point in having one or trying to learn it. But in today’s world looks are very important and while you might not be deep in the trenches of the everyday fashion war of looking for the next big thing, you can still manage to look good with just a few pointers. And it’s these kinds of pointers that we would like to give our everyman readers now.

1. Socks

Starting at the very bottom – your feet. Everyone wears socks, unless you’re in sandals all day, which few people have the convenience of doing. So when you buy socks and try to match them with your outfit, what should you do? The biggest mistake you’ll ever make is wearing white socks – these are best left for when you’re doing sports. The next rule of thumb is to have them match the color of your pants, although perhaps in a different shade. Patterns are accepted, but not necessarily encouraged – if you do like them, keep them simple. And absolutely no novelty socks – and this will apply to any piece of clothing.

2. Shoes

Another rule of thumb – your shoes should match your belt. Black shoes pretty much go with anything, brown, tan or dark blue shoes look best with matching colors. Anything outside of these colors is risking stepping into very tricky fashion territory, and we won’t advise it unless you’re very experienced. Belts also look better in black or shades of brown. Some people ask us about suspenders, and we usually frown a little. If you do insist on wearing suspenders, just make sure you wear them instead of a belt, and not with a belt.

3. Ties and Shirts

These are among the most important things in a man’s wardrobe. It’s tricky to have your tie not clash too much with your shirt, and still stand out on its own. Be careful with patters – nothing too busy, and, again, nothing novelty. And don’t clash patterns – always have one piece be solid, otherwise you’ll look like an optical illusion.

4. Pants

We are not fans of pleated pants around here. Flat front pants are much more flattering on everyone, while pleated pants look a little strange when you’re moving, sitting down – anything but standing perfectly still (and even then they may look weird). Fitting is important, especially the waste, so watch out for that.

5. Accessories

A man doesn’t usually have a big change to accessorize, to put all your attention on the accessory everyone expects you to have: your watch. If you’re a one-watch kind of guy, a silver band is the way to go – it will match anything. If you have more than one, try to have one with a black band, one with a brown band and a silver one at least.

<![CDATA[Designer leather wallets - the sensible long-term purchase]]> Tue, 15 Mar 2011 09:56:34 +0000 While men’s leather wallets may be a little more costly up front, their combination of utility and classiness makes them a worthwhile investment with lasting value. When considering the purchase of a leather wallet, quality is undoubtedly the most important factor. Regardless of the style of wallet you prefer, it makes sense to choose a wallet that will withstand the wear and tear of daily activities and keep looking great. A man’s wallet is generally his only one and it goes with him everywhere. Consequently, the wallet becomes an indelible part of a man’s style. He has it with him every day, makes use of it several times throughout the day, and it contains the valuable items he needs to go about his business. For an accessory with such frequent use, there is little sense in purchasing a lower quality wallet that’s going to wear out after a short time. A well-made designer leather wallet will certainly add an air of refined taste to one’s image, while effectively serving the needs of its owner for years to come.

A good wallet just fits

Whether carrying your cash or credit cards, your driver’s license, or even pictures of your family and loved ones, it’s important to know that all of your possessions are protected and well-contained. A tri-fold wallet made of durable leather ensures that everything inside will be organized, easily accessible, and safe from wear and tear. Unlike money-clips or other means for carrying cash and cards around, men’s leather wallets are more versatile and stylish. A nice men’s wallet can carry much more than a money clip and will fit snuggly into a pocket so that you always know where it is when you’re on-the-go. The wallet performs above and beyond the capabilities of a simple money clip and provides a subtle bit of style to anyone’s appearance. As one becomes used to the smooth and familiar feel of well-stitched genuine leather, as well as the weight and shape a particular wallet, men’s wallets can even develop sentimental value for their owners over time.

Choose a wallets in whatever size, shape and colour suits you

Men’s leather wallets come in a variety of sizes, from small to medium to large, depending on how much a man desires to carry with him in his wallet. He can also choose between tri-fold or bi-fold wallets depending on his preference and there are various shades of brown and black leather and even some brighter more vibrant colours to pick from to suit the tastes of the owner. Aside from their quality and utility, designer wallets look sharp and say a lot about the good taste of those who decide to use them.

A cheap wallets equals a cheap wallet

With the wide range of prices for men’s wallets, it might sound good to save a few bucks and purchase a cheaper wallet than a valuable designer leather wallet, but soon the less expensive wallet will deteriorate and can start to look shabby. When that happens, a man will have to worry about getting another wallet and then another. In the long run, saving a little money on a lower quality wallet can turn into more of a hassle than it is worth. Chances are it will cost just as much, if not more, than initially spending a bit extra on a wallet that won’t let you down.

Look good, feel good

With a high quality men’s wallet is a lot like buying a good men’s necklace , one smart purchase can last for years to come. A good wallet is more than worth the higher cost, because with it you gain the peace of mind that you have a durable, well-made product that will last and work to keep you looking sharp day in and day out.

<![CDATA[4 Things in Your Wallet that Can Lead to Your Identity Theft]]> Sat, 05 Mar 2011 11:14:44 +0000

If you have ever lost your wallet you know how frustrating it can be. And having your wallet stolen presents an even greater security risk than you may realize. If you think that the worst thing that can happen after a stolen wallet is that your cash is taken and your credit cards are maxed out, think again. There are 4 items that are probably in your wallet right now that can lead to your entire identity being stolen. You may not carry all of these in your wallet, and if you do, you should think twice before carrying on this habit.

1. Your social security card. This one should be basic. You should never carry your social security card on you, but there are many people that do, and they are at a much higher risk of having their identity stolen should anything happen to their wallets. Once an ID thief has that number it makes the whole job of taking of your personal identity a cake walk. Don’t make it that easy on him, and keep your SS card in a safe at home or in a secret place that is not very accessible.

2. Your credit cards. Did you know that a thief does not even have to have access to your wallet in order to steal all of the information off your credit card. There are many cards that use radio wave technologies, and with special equipment if the crook just walks by you within 5 feet he can send a ping to your card which will retrieve your name, credit card number, and expiration date. You can protect yourself by either not carrying those types of credit cards or putting tin foil around your card. Sounds crazy, but hey, it works.

3. Your insurance cards. You really don’t need to carry these medical insurance cards except for the day of your appointment, so keep them in the safe at home as well. You may be surprised at how little personal information an ID thief needs in order to take away your private data. Health care identity fraud is a huge business right now, so more than ever you need to keep any medical records safe and secure.

4. Anything that has your private passwords on it. This one might also seem like a no-brainer, but more people are carrying their passwords for their email and other accounts in their wallet. You might think that you would never lose your wallet so why not just keep that information with you at all times in case you forget, but you never know what might happen to your wallet. No one plans to lose their wallet or have it stolen. It just happens. And when it does you need to make sure that there is no information in there that will breach the security of your identity.

<![CDATA[Buying Gifts for Men Who Have Everything]]> Wed, 06 Oct 2010 11:13:53 +0000 So your best friend/boyfriend/brother/man next door is the coolest kid on the block. What do you buy them when their birthday or the silly season comes around?

It may seem like a mammoth task coming up with something that they don’t already have, and yes, you can buy them a gift voucher or carton of beers – but I’m sure you can do better than that.

You have several options when it comes to buying a gift for the man who has it all. The ‘gag gift’ is an easy option – you find something that is utterly ridiculous but it’s funny so that’s all that matters.

However, if your man friend is someone with a little bit more, should we say, ‘class’, then you may want to upgrade to a more mature present. Plus, you always run the risk of them not finding the farting reindeer quite as funny as you did.

Accessories are a great gift idea for men, because even if they already have a wallet, belt and tie you can never have too many!

Let’s assume your savvy friend is up-to-date with the latest technology and already has his hands on the latest ‘it’ toy – the iPad. Why not get him a stylish iPad case to put it in? You can get iPad cases across all price ranges and styles. Perhaps a smart, leather iPad case would suit your corporate-minded man; or a funky, retro design iPad case for the man who refuses to grow old.

Not quite jumped on the iPad bandwagon yet? That’s alright – get him an iPhone case or another one that fits his phone of choice.

While we’re on the topic of accessories, we can’t leave without mentioning wallets. Depending on the person and the occasion a nice men’s wallet makes a great present for the man who has it all. He most likely already has a wallet, but who doesn’t like the refreshing feeling of swapping all of your cards, coins and ten-year-old receipts over into a fresh, sparkling new wallet? Exactly!

Other accessories that are always well-received include business card holders, laptop cases, ties and travel wallets. It’s a good idea to keep the style simple, particularly if they are very picky about their things. A simple, timeless design (such as a brown leather wallet) is always a winner.

If you are romantically involved with the man in question then you may want to get him a present that has a little extra sentimental value. Simple presents that are custom personalised are a good gift idea. However, men aren’t as keen on having: ‘Love you Shnookums’ visible on their jewellery/watch/etc as their female counterparts may be – so try to use some discretion.

None of these ideas tickle your fancy? Gift voucher it is!

<![CDATA[Mens Fashion Mistakes – Top 5]]> Sun, 03 Oct 2010 15:08:10 +0000 I’d like to say that fashion is about reflecting your own personality through clothing and that what you wear doesn’t really matter on a day-to-day basis. But we have to be honest – what you wear does matter and there are some fashion mistakes that men make over and over again. Let’s take a look at the top five.

Right Shoes, Wrong Socks

This is by far the biggest fashion faux pas that men make on a daily basis. You may think that your mis-matched Christmas socks are hidden from view by your suit pants, but believe me they’re not.

When wearing a suit you need to wear long dress socks that reach up to your calves. This means that when you cross your legs you can’t see any skin – just sock. Colour-wise your shoes, suit and socks should all match. Never (under any circumstances!) mix a black suit with brown shoes.

If you’re wearing casual clothes then short socks or no sock are the best options. Still make sure they match colour-wise though. Socks aren’t hard on the wallet – so there’s no excuse not to get them right.

Love your summer sandals but need some extra warmth in the winter? You will be immediately sent to the bottom of the ‘sexy-list’ if you even consider wearing socks and sandals. Either brave the cold or ditch the shoes.

Stuffed Pockets

If there’s any way to ruin your look – it’s stuffing your pockets full of bulky items. Yes, you can use your pockets to store some loose change, a slim wallet and perhaps your keys – but that is all.

If you regularly need to carry around multiple items then consider buying yourself a man-bag. It’s not as feminine as it sounds and man-bags are becoming increasingly popular both with business men and everyday men on the go.

Laptop protection is the most important type of bag you need, particularly if you travel to the office every day. There are a wide range of smart laptop protection and laptop sleeve bags on the market and they usually contain a range of other compartments so that you can store other belongings too – keeping the bulge down in your pockets!

Get the Right Fit

We know there’s a black American rap star in all of us trying to get out – but please don’t let him get out through your clothes.

You may think that baggy clothes are hiding a multitude of sins, when in fact they are doing you more harm than good. Unless you’re Eminem, then baggy clothing will just make you look sloppy.

If you have trouble finding clothes that fit right, then have a tailor make you something to fit. It may seem like an expensive option – but you’ll appreciate the results.

Backpacks are for Kids

Yes, backpacks are practical, cheap and they do the job. But if you’re wearing a nice suit – don’t ruin the look with a backpack reminiscent of your high school days. Backpacks are ok if you’re going camping or heading to the gym, but they should never be worn in the workplace.

As we mentioned above, think about upgrading to a laptop protection or laptop sleeve bag instead.

Accessorise Right

Accessories can make a man. Whether it’s some silver cufflinks, silk tie or new leather wallet, accessories are a great way to update your look.

Many men make the mistake of thinking that accessories don’t count, so they continue to use their tatty old wallet from the 90’s or wear their dad’s retro ties from the 70’s. Freshen up your look quickly and easily with some new accessories.

<![CDATA[Why Every Man Needs a Good Wallet]]> Sun, 03 Oct 2010 14:51:26 +0000 You may think the brightly-coloured, Velcro, surfing-brand wallet you got when you were fifteen is cool – but you can be certain that the ladies are thinking otherwise. A good wallet is a sign of sophistication, class and most importantly – maturity.

You come to a certain age when you don’t want to attract women that think the aforementioned wallets are acceptable nor even, dare I say it, sexy. If you want a classy woman then you need a classy wallet to match. If you don’t – then don’t bother reading ahead!

So you’ve met the girl and now you’re ready to impress her. You’re looking suave in your best date-outfit, your hair is styled to perfection and you’ve booked the best table at the best restaurant in town. The dinner is great, the company even better.

Now picture yourself at the end of the night pulling out your wallet and like the gentleman you are, you offer to pay for dinner. She gives you a cute smile and you smirk back, feeling reassured that the night went to plan.

Now watch all that hard work quickly become undone when she sees your worn-out, scruffy 90’s Simpsons wallet (or something equally as tragic). You will immediately lose a significant amount of brownie points or at least go down a notch in the ‘cool’ stakes. Sounds petty? Perhaps so. Don’t understand the logic behind it? Perhaps not. But let’s be honest – do men ever truly understand how women think?

If you want to impress the woman of your dreams (or any respectable woman for that matter) then get yourself a nice, leather wallet. It doesn’t need to be fancy it just has to be nice.

So what is a nice leather wallet you ask? Leather wallets come in a range of styles, price, size and colors. You don’t need to spend a fortune to get an attractive and women-pleasing men’s wallet, neither do you need to have the latest fashion trend. In fact, some of the best men’s wallets are those that are traditionally stylish and can stand the test of time – this also means that you don’t need to keep updating it every season!

Then the rest is largely a case of personal taste. Brown or black leather? Both are just as nice – so just choose the one that you like best. As well as trying to impress the ladies, you also want your wallet to be practical. Do you need a coin section? Do you carry a lot of cards around with you? Do you need it to fit into your back pocket? These are all things you should take into consideration before choosing your wallet.

So can a good wallet really improve your dating capabilities? Well, don’t go kidding yourself – it’s not going to make up for a lack of compatibility or bad table manners – but it certainly won’t do you any harm!
